Beliebers world wide were asking the singer “What Do You Mean?” on Tuesday evening following the singer’s latest set of Instagrams.
“If you see me out somewhere, know that I’m not going to take a picture,” wrote Justin Bieber. “I’m done taking pictures.”
Though the 22-year-old didn’t mention a specific instance that pushed him over the edge — as Amy Schumer did when she decried that she, too, didn’t owe fans photos — he articulated that it was the dehumanization of the whole process that drove him to the decision.
“It has gotten to the point that people won’t even recognize me as a human, I feel like a zoo animal,” he added.

The in-demand singer also anticipated the adverse reaction from fans, writing, “and people who say ‘but I bought your album’ know that you bought my album and you got what you paid for — AN ALBUM.”
In a follow-up post, Bieber also addressed a negative comment from user Braekess (whose handle, Bieber noted, is “fire”) who told him that taking photos with fans comes with the territory of popstar-dom.
“If you think setting boundaries is being a douche I’m the biggest douche around,” Bieber wrote. “But I think it’s smart and will be the only way I last.”
Time will tell if the singer follows through with this new rule (#NeverSayNever, amirite?). For now, enjoy these awkward photos of Bieber taking selfies with fans.
