Two British newspapers are reporting that Kate Middleton will wear a wedding gown designed by Sarah Burton from the house of Alexander McQueen when she weds Prince William on April 29, although the fashion house is firmly denying it.
“The design of the dress would be a combination of Miss Middleton’s own ideas and Mrs. Burton’s quirky interpretation of high fashion,” the Telegraph reported, citing anonymous sources.
The paper also reported that Burton was chosen for “the discretion afforded by her relatively low profile, as well as for her alternative take on elegance.”
The Sunday Times additionally reported that Burton had been chosen to design the wedding gown.
However, a spokeswoman for Alexander McQueen denied the news when reached for comment by the Telegraph.
“Sarah is busy working on her new collection for the Tuesday show, and she was as surprised as the rest of us to hear about this,” the spokesperson said. “She is not designing the dress.”
Company CEO Jonathan Akeroyd also denied the news to the Telgraph: “Not at all. I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it.”
However, the Telegraph reports that Middleton is intent on keeping the dress details under wraps until the big day and that the “chosen couturier has been sworn to secrecy,” which would present the fashion house from confirming the news regardless.
