Fashion history repeats itself.
On Tuesday evening the 36-year-old Duchess of Cambridge attended a state dinner at Buckingham Palace and wore the famous Lover’s Knot tiara. The piece of jewelry was a favorite of her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, who often wore it during special occasions.
This marked the fourth time Middleton has worn the classic piece featuring teardrop-shaped pearls and diamonds all throughout its shape, which was on loan from Queen Elizabeth II.
She first donned the tiara in 2015 during a Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace and the item was last seen on Lady Di in 1991.
Also known as the Cambridge Lover’s Knot, the piece was commissioned by the monarch’s grandmother, Queen Mary in 1914, and was made from family owned pearls and jewels by the House of Garrand.
Aside from the iconic tiara, Middleton also wore Queen Alexandra’s wedding necklace and the royal family order on one of her shoulders, which is considered a personal gift from the Queen with her icy blue Alexander McQueen gown, according to People.com.
The Duchess accompanied her husband, the Duke of Cambridge, to the event hosted by the Queen, which served as the first day of the official state visit for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands to the United Kingdom.
