Kate Spade — the designer, not the brand — is getting back to work after an eight-year hiatus. According to WWD, Spade is preparing to debut a new accessories collection consisting of a full shoe selection and a small offering of handbags. The line is expected to hit stores in time for the holidays, though prices have yet to be disclosed.
The designer and her husband, Andy Spade (brother to actor David Spade), sold the Kate Spade New York operation to Liz Claiborne Inc. back in 2007 due to “personal reasons.” Andy, who was formerly CEO of the company that the couple co-founded, also heads up the successful branding agency Partners & Spade, which counts Warby Parker among its clientele.

“I’ve spent the last eight years raising my daughter and being a consumer,” Kate told the trade. “It’s exciting to be back at work.”
As for what the new collection will be called, the designer says she’s currently considering a few options. However, “Kate Spade” will not be one of them, thanks to legal restrictions following the sale of her previous brand.
