Katie Holmes, Taylor Swift and Meryl Streep all brought their fashion A-game to The Giver premiere in New York on Monday, but we couldn’t help but notice Holmes’ polished look. In addition to her updo and smoky eye, her stunning Zac Posen blush pink chiffon gown with cape-style back draping hit all the right notes, bringing the starlet’s understated feminine elegance to the fore. As for her footwear of choice? The Proenza Schouler lizard-effect, perforated leather stilettos in shades of blush apricot and gray with a gray cap toe from 2011 hit a high note, taking her ensemble in an extremely refined and luxurious direction. Julie Gilhart, former fashion director at Barneys and now fashion consultant (who bought the very first Proenza collection ever produced), shares, “I think Proenza Schouler has always been the go-to brand for a girl that wants to have the coolness of a downtown lifestyle with the chic classicism of an uptown woman. Katie Holmes has always been that, so that is why this works so well.”
Kate Mara has already established herself as a style star on the red carpet, and she’s no different when it comes to her everyday attire, mixing casual, on-trend pieces like boyfriend jeans, crop tops and skater skirts with equal aplomb. This week in NYC, she rocked a unique pair of Jil Sander hybrid loafer-Mary Jane white flats with both a dress and jeans — getting double duty out of one pair of seemingly utilitarian, yet extremely fashion-forward chic footwear. Johnny Wujek, who is teaming up with the actress to style nine H&M windows for New York Fashion Week, notes, “We love mixing in masculine pieces to Kate’s looks. The loafers in this look give it that perfect touch.”
Jessica Alba has been stepping out in the coolest shoes lately, from a pair of Stuart Weitzman peep-toe denim booties to this week’s Brian Atwood “Tribeca” Mary Jane peep-toes in metallic. While stopping by Good Morning America to chat with Robin Roberts about her upcoming film Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the actress paired her pink Antonio Berardi frock with the six-and-a-quarter-inch platforms designed by Atwood. The look was a winner — and Atwood agrees. “Jessica always looks great in my shoes, and the Tribeca sandal is one of my favorites because of its height and retro look,” says the celebrity shoe designer. “The Tribeca stiletto sandal in silver specchio leather added the right wow factor to Jessica’s feminine dress.”
Janel Parrish
While the Teen Choice Awards was dominated by crop tops, Janel Parrish quietly took the prize for best red-carpet shoe. Her Ruthie Davis “Joanne” ankle-cuffed platform stiletto lent a fierce element to the Pretty Little Liars star’s soft ensemble of flowy silk navy skirt and jade silk crop top. No stranger to platforms, Parrish embraced these five-and-a-half-inch-high Lucite block heeled superhero-inspired shoes originally created as a custom look for Lady Gaga. “When my stylist, Adeel Khan, showed me these heels, I fell in love! They made me feel funky and glamorous all at once,” says Parrish. “The Lucite heel is so different and we instantly knew they were the ones for this look.” Designer Davis also weighed in on the powerful look: “I like to contrast elements, hard versus soft, pretty versus fierce. The leather I used is tough yet smooth. My signature studded buckle adds the “pretty” to the fierce black leather, and black reveals the sleek lines of the design so purely. The front of the shoe is clean and minimal, and the clear Lucite heel adds a light and futuristic quality. But the cuff is all power, like a shield for protection.” Power shoes. What could be better?
Newlywed Naya Rivera stepped out in Beverly Hills this week in an all-white eyelet two-piece pencil skirt sundress, and added a playful touch to the minimalist look with floral pumps. Her Stuart Weitzman rose python pearlescent four-inch stilettos are actually hand-painted, so no two pairs are alike. While rumors swirled that Rivera was hurt that her former flame Big Sean is reportedly dating Ariana Grande, she seems to be taking the world in perfectly polished strides.
