Thanksgiving may have passed but Hollywood stars are still feeling thankful and ready to give back to those in need.
In celebration of the seventh year of the #GivingTuesday campaign — a global event of giving fueled by social media and collaboration that encourages consumers to donate to charities and nonprofits — stars such as Katy Perry, Kobe Bryant, Blake Shelton and the late Stan Lee have special experiences and signed items on eBay for Charity, which are sold to benefit charities such as Save the Children, Baby2Baby, the Tony Hawk Foundation and American Cancer Society.
The campaign, which features more than 12 ways to give back to a variety of causes, includes exclusive inventory and VIP experiences for consumers. The campaign was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to the commercialization of the Thanksgiving weekend’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping extravaganzas.
Exclusive products available for consumers to bid on this year include a signed skateboard by Lee, a Chevy Chase signed Bushwood golf flag from the film Caddyshack, a special-edition red vinyl record signed by Perry and a special-edition pink vinyl signed by Kacey Musgraves benefiting both MusiCares and the Grammy Museum, as well as autographed items from country stars Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton for Musicians on Call, which brings live, in-room performances to patients undergoing treatment.
Other charities involved include ESPN and the V Foundation, with signed game-worn sneakers from superstars such as Tracy McGrady, Jalen Rose, Scottie Pippen, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and James Harden to be auctioned; and eBay partnering with singer Jessie James Decker for her “Top 12 Holiday Toys” of the season. As part of the partnership benefiting Save the Children, shoppers will have a chance to win an ultimate meet-and-greet with Decker as well as all the toys on her holiday toy list.
In previous years, stars such as Saras Paulson, Kerry Washington, Michael J. Fox, and Barbra Streisand have championed for their favorite causes in honor of #GivingTuesday. Last year, Mindy Kaling collaborated with Tory Burch to highlight both the designer’s best gifts as well as the Tony Burch Foundation Seed Box, which featured products from the foundation’s female entrepreneurs.
