H&M’s latest designer collaboration with Kenzo gives the “cat suit” a whole new meaning.
In an Instagram preview of the collection — modeled exclusively by New York-based artist-types — writer Amy Sall and poet Juliana Huxtable show off tiger-striped jersey roll neck tops and matching high-waisted leggings, which are styled with elbow-length black evening gloves reading “Kenzo Paris” in block letters. Blush pink stiletto booties (also tiger print, naturally) top off the wild looks.
The vibe is reminiscent of the brand’s Jungle Book-inspired collection that dropped earlier this spring ahead of Disney’s live-action remake, which was also big on prints and jungle cat motifs.
(Fashion history side note: the Kenzo brand’s namesake, Kenzo Takada, got his start in the 1970s mixing deliberately-clashing prints and colors together on youthful, eclectic looks, sometimes even using fabric remnants; and his first boutique was called Jungle Jap.)
More looks from the H&M collaboration prove that the tiger stripes don’t stop with shoes. Kenzo designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon liberally used the jungle print on bags, scarves, socks and even thong sandals, as seen on musician Oko Ebombo.
But for better or worse, the collection is not all jungle fever. Isamaya Ffrench, a makeup artist and illustrator, models a leather coat lined with bubblegum pink faux shearling.
Eager fans will have to wait until Nov. 3 for the full collection to hit stores and online.
