Can’t keep up with what’s been going on in the social media world? Fret not. Here, a gathering of what the stars have been up to this week on social media.
Lowbrow Social Media
The 10-plus-year feud between New York Magazine fashion critic Cathy Horyn and designer Hedi Slimane wages on. The former Saint Laurent designer tweeted a firestorm allegedly directed at the longtime critic (read the full Twitter rant here). It’s no coincidence that Slimane chose to tweet, as Twitter is Horyn’s social media vertical of choice. What Slimane did wrong was post a visceral firestorm only to delete it later. Passive-aggressive tweets, eye-roll-inducing quotes on Instagram and video rants on Snapchat are defined as social media “subliminal,” the biggest DON’T on social media. Sleep on it, never let ‘em see you sweat, don’t give them a reaction: all the advice (some of us) were taught as children should not stop at social media. You’ll only embarrass yourself.

Social Like Beyonce
Beyonce looks so Gucci in Gucci, always. Today the style queen posted a slideshow of her and Blue Ivy Carter (holding a Gucci tote) after being photographed in the look by a paparazzo on Oct. 6. Jenna Wortham’s NYT Magazine piece, published last Sunday, made a strong case for handling your social media “like Beyonce,” which means no geotagging or real-time posting. The timing of the story is remarkable, as Kardashian was robbed of $10M of jewels in Paris the same day. Could this be the new social media strategy that Kardashian will employ? It would be a great start.
Eva Chen & SJP
Divorce star Sarah Jessica Parker joined Eva Chen for a FB Live and revealed some tidbits about Frances, her character on the show. Don’t expect SJP to rock SATC-level looks on the show, though: Frances wears leggings purchased from a thrift store and frequently complains about money on the show — a major departure from Ms. Carrie ‘Money Ain’t a Thing’ Bradshaw’s wardrobe.
Bride Hive
Los Angeles bride Melissa Molinaro treated her husband to an expertly choreographed, seven-minute dance routine to a Beyonce song at her wedding. While it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, the new bride did put in a considerable amount of work to hit those moves. This BeyHive member gives her a solid B-.
JustFab X Betches
The fashion-subscription e-commerce site JustFab launched a collab with social media all-stars Betches. The collection will be curated by creators Jordana Abraham, Samantha Fishbein and Aleen Kuperman. Expect a wide range of apparel and accessories that encompass that catty, say-anything vibe of the Betches gals.
Overheard LA Guy Revealed
Jesse Margolis, curator of popular Instagram accounts @overheardLA and @overheardnewyork, finally revealed his identity to The New York Times. His face and age? Not so much. Margolis sat for a backward-facing portrait, while looking at the Hollywood sign in the distance — so L.A. The reality TV and docuseries developer divulged his process: “I will always ask someone once or twice: Is this real? Is this a friend or a stranger?” Could this all be the project of a clever writer? Only time will tell. Wild tales of partying and children, sex and dating are all shared, but the Instagram sensation takes the high road by refusing to post submissions about celebs.
Friday Fleurs
Rebecca Taylor and Nordstrom celebrated the launch of La Vie Rebecca Taylor. Available now at Rebecca Taylor and Nordstrom stores, the line includes the floral prints that Taylor is known for, reworked denim and delicate embroidered pieces. Guests dined under Chateau Marmont’s famed colonnade by the garden, on a table decorated with armloads of olive and eucalyptus branches, Majolica roses, Cafe au Lait dahlias and hydrangeas. Kristen Bell (spotted chatting with Michael B. Jordan), Annabelle Wallis and Jane Levy were in attendance.
