Kristen Stewart had worn a ton of Balenciaga this fall while starting to promote two films: the new (and last) Twilight, and On the Road — the second film being the one that’s meant to really prove her acting chops and launch her into more adult roles and films. But of course, she has a contract with the French avant-garde label to promote their fragrance. Yet this week, Stewart wore two looks from Andrea Lieberman‘s ALC line — interesting that she should suddenly do this when famed Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere announced he is stepping down from his exalted job of 15 years this week.
Stewart wore a fall 2012 leather dress by ALC with a wool yoke and short sleeves to the New York screening of On the Road — a longer length for her (to the knee), and very adult-looking. She wisely wore the slightly toughened-up look with very little makeup. This dress is in stores now — unusual for an actress to wear a dress that’s already in stores (this writer actually owns it and is wearing it in the current issue of THR out now, in the coverage of THR‘s Power of Style lunch!) since this means anyone else can be wearing it, too. But it must mean she really likes it. It will be interesting to see if her wearing it suddenly steps up sales of the dress, which is on the Neiman Marcus website right now.
When Stewart wore another ALC design, this time a spring 2013 short black dress with short sleeves, for an appearance this week on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (this dress won’t be in stores until March 2013), we had to wonder if she or her stylist might be friends with the designer — and former stylist to Jennifer Lopez, P. Diddy and Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, interesting timing for Stewart to suddenly abandon Balenciaga clothes — while she’s promoting what are arguably the most important movies of her career. Is there something to this? The clothes will tell us!
