After runway shows in the last year by Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Saint Laurent and Stella McCartney, here’s yet another reason to call L.A. “the Paris of the West”: There have been a number of awards being given out by magazines to hair, makeup and wardrobe stylists in Hollywood, but this one will have serious New York and European fashion presence — and more than a few superstars.
The Daily Front Row, the fashion week daily magazine and 24/7 fashion news website FashionWeekDaily.com, is presenting its second annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards on March 20, with Lady Gaga getting an unusual award to go with her Grammys and Golden Globe: editor of the year. That’s right, Gaga — the woman who can do everything, and does — put together a record 16 covers for V Magazine‘s pre-spring issue and edited the entire magazine.
Not only that, her stylist and newly minted fashion designer (whom she’s been wearing on many red carpets) Brandon Maxwell will be awarded best new designer of the year. You can pretty much figure out what Gaga will be wearing to this event, right?
Eva Chow will be honored as this year’s Fashion Innovator, Bella Hadid as model of the year, Jennifer Meyer (another Angeleno) as jewelry designer of the year, and Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book will receive magazine of the year. There will also be a special tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, and an array of surprise megastar attendees. (We can’t name all the names yet, but they’re definitely A-list.) And rumors of megastar celebrity friends of honorees are also rife. These honors will be presented by a variety of big names from across all industries — including ex-Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz, supermodel Gigi Hadid and Kate Hudson.
Elbaz has lain low since he left Lanvin in October of 2015, and while there’s been a lot of gossip of him going to Dior or starting his own namesake collection, he’s commented on nothing. Not only is it a long flight from Paris to L.A. (Elbaz doesn’t make the trip often) but he is doing so for a very old and dear friend, Eva Chow, who helped initiate LACMA’s Art+Film Gala, a major fashion and art initiative for the museum.
“I met Alber back when we were both designing in New York,” says Chow. “Then he moved to Paris and I moved to L.A. and we met again after a number of years, and bonded all over again. He’s an old and very close friend — not to mention creative, kind and a very special human being. A very genuine person. When I found out I was getting this award, I was asked who I’d like my presenter to be. I only wanted Alber. When I asked him, he said, ‘Let me figure out my schedule and if I can do it, I will.'” Clearly he did, as he’s been announced as presenter. L.A. will get a rare glimpse of the designer and perhaps learn more about his future plans — if we’re lucky, he’ll spill the beans.

Beginning on March 17, The Daily Front Row: Hollywood Edition will be distributed in various locations throughout the city. It’s a collectible issue of the magazine and it features cover art shot by Karl Lagerfeld. He appears in it, too, with Carine Roitfeld, and it also highlights the best of the European shows and its choices for the best shopping destinations in Los Angeles.
“Seeing this cover that Karl Lagerfeld photographed exclusively for The Daily come to life is such a moment for us, as we have been working on it in complete secrecy with Karl and Carine for so long. The two of them have never been together on a cover before, so this is a first for them, and for The Daily,” said The Daily Front Row’s editor-in-chief Brandusa Niro. “After the shoot, Karl commented that Carine is able to give people more talent than they already have. Indeed, our cover line describes both of them perfectly: Fashion Royalty.”
And to top it all off, the event will be hosted by creative director Nicole Richie. At last year’s event, honorees and guests included Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Gigi Hadid, Kanye West, Jeremy Scott, Kerry Washington, Christian Louboutin, Armie Hammer, Drew Barrymore and more. Not bad, right?
