Lanvin artistic director Olivier Lapidus will exit the French fashion house effective immediately. The designer, who was appointed in July, created two collections for the brand, neither of which were well-received by critics.
An in-house team will take over the design of the womenswear line until Lapidus‘ replacement is named. The designer will return his focus to his own namesake brand, Creation Olivier Lapidus, which he called an “e-couture house.”
The designer’s departure comes just one month after the French fashion house was acquired by Chinese conglomerate Fosun Group, the same company that owns Club Med.
“Olivier steered the Maison through a transitional period between ownerships,” said Fosun Fashion Group president Joann Cheng, who has been appointed as the interim CEO of Lanvin. “We thank him for that, and wish him every success for his own brand and future endeavors.”
She added that house is looking to relaunch “with fresh talents, while adhering to the values that the brand has maintained since 1889.”
The past three years have been rough-going for the fashion house, which was once considered a major red carpet player. Following the controversial exit of celebrity-loved Alber Elbaz, who was rumored to have butted heads with then-owner Shaw-Lan Wang, the brand appointed Bouchra Jarrar as the creative director. She exited the house after just 16 months, and Lapidus — whose resume included stints at Balmain — was then brought on as the replacement.
