As the new face of My Burberry fragrances, the luxury fashion house chose a self-described very proud Brit, actress Lily James. The announcement is in keeping with tradition for the heritage label, which until now had featured English models Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne in ads for the scents.
This gig marks the first time the former Cinderella — and soon-to-be Juliet in a theater production of Romeo and Juliet in London this summer — has starred in a global advertising campaign. Representing a collection of fragrances by a major label is a big way to get into modeling.
The campaign for the brand-new My Burberry Black was shot by Mario Testino, but the public won’t get to see his film and images until August, when the sensual fragrance inspired by a London garden at dusk launches. Said James in a release, “Shooting my first campaign was so special — I don’t want to give away too much, but I had a lot of fun showing a different side of myself.” It seems safe to assume James won’t be playing the delicate English rose in this role.
