Mahershala Ali has much to celebrate lately, from winning an Academy Award to becoming a dad for the first time.
On Monday, the Moonlight star shared a photo of himself holding his newborn baby girl, with the caption “Bari x Abu.” (“Abu” means “father of” in Arabic.) Ali, 43, and his wife, artist Amatus Sami-Karim, welcomed daughter Bari on Feb. 22, just six days before the actor would go on to win best supporting actor at the Oscars for his role in Moonlight.
Ali gave a shout-out to his wife during his acceptance speech, “Lastly, I want to thank my wife, who was in her third trimester during the awards season.”
As for being a father, Ali told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that he’s “a special kind of tired right now. It’s amazing though. I’m very grateful. It’s been a good time.”
