With the return of John Galliano and his debut collection for Maison Martin Margiela as creative director, this Monday was referred as #MargielaMonday (on Instagram and Twitter) when he presented the brand’s spring 2015 couture collection in Paris. While critics and fans alike were focused on his latest work, another important element of the luxury label was overlooked.
As Vanessa Friedman points out in The New York Times, Maison Martin Margiela has dropped its middle name. The brand’s rep told Friedman that the change “reflects the evolution of the house,” as Galliano takes the helm at Margiela. Instead of making an official announcement, the NYT chief fashion critic suspects the brand is trying to avoid the same backlash that Yves Saint Laurent received when it changed its name to Saint Laurent Paris in 2012. Perhaps Kanye West will want to weigh in on this, too?
#MargielaMonday is here at last. #MaisonMargiela #JohnGalliano #Artisanal
