“At an afterparty, you need to tap into everyone’s different mood, find the spark that one person has ignited and spread it to the entire room,” says Mia Moretti, one-half of DJ duo The Dolls, who has taken over the turntables for everyone from Prabal Gurung to Louis Vuitton and Lanvin. “Then of course, take them on a musical journey, so everyone at the party forgets where they are and where they have to be ?tomorrow.”
A veteran on the Met Ball afterhours circuit (in 2014, she spun at the gala’s unofficial afterparty), Moretti’s own dance card is filling up this season. Coming up: a sound installation with her art collective, Chez Conversations, for this year’s summer party at the historic Glass House in Connecticut. “The iconic Country Happening of 1967 will be a significant influence for our sound installation, which will extend throughout the vast grounds,” she explains. The installation also will feature pieces of The Doll’s nearly completed new EP, I.D.M. (Instrumental Dance Music), which will be performed live with a full band.
In between preparing for her first trip to the Kentucky Derby (“Send me betting tips!”) and a stop in Cannes with The Dolls, Moretti shares her tracks for throwing the ultimate Met Ball afterparty. Put on your dancing shoes, stat.
