Miansai, the jewelry and accessories label known for its nautically inspired gold and rose gold screw-on cuffs — in particular the Modern Screw Cuff, worn by Emily Blunt, Jamie Chung and Cameron Diaz, among others — has debuted on the West Coast. The Miami-based brand’s second flagship location (its first is in Soho) opens Friday in an ideal spot on Venice’s endlessly hip Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
The eight-year-old label — which is also loved by stars including Ashley Benson, Reese Witherspoon and Michael B. Jordan — has an instantly recognizable aesthetic that started off with sailboat hardware. The whole collection has a coastal feel, featuring anchors, fishing hooks, classic colors and sleek, simple lines. The jewelry is handcrafted with precious metals, and the pieces also incorporate maritime-grade rope and fine Italian leather.
But preppy as it may sound to someone unfamiliar, Miansai should fit in seamlessly with Venice’s more boho vibe. “I’ve always had an affinity for the Venice neighborhood and believe it’s aligned with our brand identity,” says founder and creative director Michael Saiger. “I like the mood, the people and the collaborative culture — it was a natural direction for us.”
This new 1,000-square-foot store matches the Soho space with its high ceilings, spare walnut wood displays, marble and metal touches and a build-your-own monogram station (leather cardholders, wallets, portfolios, passport cases and rope-wrapped journals with anchor closures can be personalized on the spot). The perfectly Venice kicker? It also features a kombucha tea bar.
Abbot Kinney is full of shops and cafes that serve fresh pressed juices and coffee, but this appears to be the street’s first dedicated to the trendy fermented beverage. Health-Ade Kombucha will be on tap, ready to be mixed in such proprietary blends as apple, lemon, jalapeno and cayenne, or ginger, pineapple and cayenne. “Plus we have a courtyard,” says Saiger, and it has complimentary Wi-Fi, “so we hope our visitors relax and stay awhile.”
The store debuts with the spring/summer collection, featuring elegant architectural cuffs, chokers, studs and rings in highly polished sterling silver and gold vermeil, and a plethora of iterations of the classic screw cuff. There’s even a version with light blue enamel.
Elegant rose gold watches on simple leather straps, braided leather wrap bracelets, canvas belts and matte navy coated cuffs for men also figure in. To celebrate the opening, there is an exclusive navy colorway in the Modern Anchor Bracelet on indigo rope that is only available at the Venice location.
“This has been a true labor of love from start to finish,” says Saiger, who designed and conceptualized the store. “Our existing L.A. customer base is quite loyal, so we’re excited to give them this different experience, as well as meet and welcome new friends of Miansai — locals, visitors, you name it.”
