Miley Cyrus is a popular pick for magazine covers lately, and she makes her debut on two covers — Elle and Seventeen — for this year’s May issues. But here’s the catch: The 21-year-old pop star only posed for one of them — Elle.
WWD reports that a source close to Cyrus’ team said: “She’s very, very selective when it comes to magazine covers. Miley declined Seventeen and denied being a part of it completely.”
Considering the former Disney star isn’t the squeaky-clean act she used to be, it makes sense that the “Wrecking Ball” singer would prefer to be featured on more grown-up fashion titles like Elle. So far, Cyrus has appeared on the covers of W and Love this year. She was featured on covers for Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar and Rolling Stone last year.
Since the controversial singer helps boost sales — her Cosmo March 2013 cover sold 1.1. million copies — it’s not surprising that Seventeen wanted to feature her, even if it meant using stock photos. “Seventeen readers love Miley Cyrus, and we cover her every chance we get,” a rep for the teen glossy told WWD. “She ranked high on the March issue’s Girl Power List. Our readers asked for more, so we responded as quickly as possible. Miley’s currently on tour promoting Bangerz, so what better time than now to celebrate her and give our readers what they want.”
Meanwhile, Cyrus’ authorized Elle cover, which was photographed by Michael Thompson, shows her covered in a sparkly head-to-toe Marc Jacobs outfit from the designer’s fall 2014 collection. She was happy to share the news on Monday, tweeting “#ElleYeah @ELLEmagazine” with an accompanying photo of the cover.
