Figue, the gypset-minded luxury collection from designer Stephanie von Watzdorf, has landed in Venice, just in time for summer. The New York-based brand’s first West Coast pop-up has opened its doors on Abbot Kinney for three months, during which the company will test the waters for a permanent location in Los Angeles.
“We have always been interested in being part of the L.A. shopping scene, explained Von Watzdorf, who cut her teeth at brands including Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Ann Taylor and, most recently, as vp design at Tory Burch, before launching her travel-inspired line in 2012. “I love the easy, bohemian lifestyle, and the Figue collection goes well with that culture.”
The 1,300-square-foot space is a reflection of Von Watzdorf’s love of travel, evident in details such as filigree lanterns and Berber wedding blankets. Comparing the space to the brand’s flagship on Elizabeth Street in Manhattan, the designer noted, “this location has a more beachy, surfer feeling. It is mostly white with Mykonos-blue touches, and merges several different cultures.” The space also is a reflection of Figue’s worldly aesthetic, seen in the likes of signature pieces such as embroidered caftans, tunics and hand-embellished jackets.
The location will carry hats by Yestadt Millinery, Calleen Cordero sandals, Spektre sunglasses and Made With Love recycled rubber bracelets — not to mention hammocks made by a hill tribe in Thailand that will be exclusive to the location. Naptime never looked this chic.
