For smaller or contemporary brands, fashion presentations are the way to go for fashion week. Here, a look at how three very different fashion labels — Kate Spade NY, Milly and Lil Yachty x Nautica — presented their spring collections.
Kate Spade: New Orleans party on the Bayou, complete with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. (Presented at Grand Central Oyster Bar)
Lil Yachty x Nautica: Dive bar with the boys. (Presented at American Beauty NYC)
Milly: Chic garden party, but woke. (Presented at Milly SoHo pop-up store)
Kate Spade: Retro-cool silhouettes in small prints and ginghams, with a few Victorian flourishes. The brand the reintroduction of the brand’s “Sam” bag, first produced in 1993. ‘
Lil Yachty x Nautica: Nineties camp counselor staples including board shorts, white polos, bucket hats, Vans, puffer vests and varsity jackets emblazoned with an homage to Yachty’s crew, The Sailing Team.
Milly: Frilly and feminine dresses and two-piece ensembles with corset-like tie detail in soothing shades of white, lavender and green.
Kate Spade: “I’m too short to see anything.”
Lil Yachty x Nautica: “Bro, you’re in my pic.”
Milly: “Are you getting good light? I can’t find good light.”
Kate Spade: Oysters, beignets, gimlets and coffee.
Lil Yachty x Nautica: Pizza. (Because it wouldn’t be a Lil Yachty event without pizza.)
Milly: Varieties of hummus in every shade of the rainbow, smoothies and sparkling refreshments. (Also a large display of radishes and other roots, though unsure if they were for consumption or decor.)
The Instagram Opps:
Kate Spade: The venue, the Grand Central Oyster Bar deep in the heart of Grand Central Station, was beautiful and warmly lit, however the models were posed on a stage and unless you felt like shoving your way to the front, there was little opportunity to snap a photo.
Lil Yachty x Nautica: Recessed lighting cast heavy shadows on the models’ faces, but nothing a little Insta editing couldn’t fix.
Milly: The floral arrangements draped over the white stairs and circular installations, as well as the rainbow lights — a nod to her #EqualityforAll campaign — made for pretty, brightly lit #MillyMoments.
Kate Spade: Issa Rae, Elisabeth Moss, Sasheer Zamata, Jamie Chung.
Lil Yachty x Nautica: Lil Yachty.
Milly: Leandra Medine, other fashion bloggers.
