Power stylist/reality TV star/designer Rachel Zoe is one busy woman, so it makes sense that the focus of her latest collection is easy dressing. Inspired by the “androgynous cool” of Jane Birkin and the “effortless glamour” of Talitha Getty, Zoe showed breezy chiffon maxi dresses, tailored suit jackets (paired with matching trousers or skinny Bermuda shorts) and silk caftans. All styles that looked very, very Zoe.
Even the more glamorous looks were carefree — a sequined top paired with shorts and a glitzy floor-length skirt with a half-tucked cotton tee. “I think right now it’s about no-fuss dressing. At this point, all the women in my life don’t want anything too complicated, but they still want to look cool and chic,” said Zoe. “Of course, I’m always thinking about the red carpet, but even that has become so much more relaxed.”
Zoe dresses Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Garner.
None of her A-list clients attended the show (the front row was packed with Zoe’s family), but longtime pal Harvey Weinstein, who was also in town for designer wife Georgina Chapman’s Marchesa show, turned up to show his support. “Rachel’s my great friend and she’s very close with my wife — she and her husband Rodger have been on vacation with us,” said Weinstein.
The one surprising appearance was the fanny pack on the runway. Yep, you read that right. There were black leather and ivory and tan snake embossed versions shown with gold hardware. “I can’t hold a big bag and Skyler,” explained Zoe, who was holding her son (in Burberry and a mini fedora) backstage. “I want something that’s attached to me, so I actually included fanny packs in the collection to give myself a way have my essentials and hold my son all day.”
If anyone can usher in the return of the fanny pack it’s Zoe.
