It was a smash in more ways than one.
Michael Kors attracted a swarm of celebrities for his stunning fall 2012 presentation on Wednesday. Smash‘s Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston (both longtime Kors pals and supporters) sat front row, plus Amber Heard, Paula Patton, Katie Couric and Jessica Alba with husband Cash Warren.
Alba wore a short, tight Kors sheath in black and green, summoning a scrum of paparazzi; Messing sported the designer’s pink shift with a belt. Now that Messing has moved to New York to shoot Smash — bringing her 8-year old son as well — she pals around with Kors more often, and that comes with a perk: access to his clothes.

Meanwhile, Kors showed one of his best collections ever, receiving unanimous praise from Couric and the fashion editors in the house.
Models trotted down the runway in red-and-black plaid, fabulous fur, and 1920s- and 1930s-style beaded gowns that appeared as light as air, shimmering like diamonds on the skin. Stylists Rachel Zoe and Brad Goreski (with client Alba) were on hand, and rushed backstage following the show. Perhaps Zoe’s client Cameron Diaz will wear one of these beaded bombshell dresses to the Oscars, where she’s set to present.
One thing we do know: Kors will not be coming to L.A. for the Oscars, even though his mother lives here. “I sent the troops – if you’re not an actor, best to stay home!” pronounced the designer. Apparently that goes for TV stars too – since he now is one.
