Rosie Assoulin took her spring 2017 collection to the beach, with gowns and pants mimicking colorful beach chairs and silhouettes reflecting a giant umbrella.
Though it was a summertime-themed collection, the designer opted out of what could have been a predictable sun-kissed look to match the sunny vibes. Instead, Assoulin enlisted MAC Cosmetics makeup artist James Kaliardos to create a beauty look where “the girls looked like they were rolling around in a bed of flowers,” he said.
“I’m putting them on the face — not always a full flower, but kind of crushing the flowers and jamming them on the cheekbone and up into the temple,” explained Kaliardos, who dabbed MAC Studio Eye Gloss on the skin before applying the petals.

“It’s just so pretty and delicate,” he said, opting for withered flowers instead of full blooms.
For the lips, Kaliardos used his new three-layered lip glosses to give a layered yet transparent effect. The MAC x James Kaliardos lip glosses are part of the upcoming 50-piece collaboration that also involves makeup artists Kabuki and Diane Kendal. The collection launches Jan. 2, 2017.
The overall fresh-picked look was rounded out with MAC’s In Extreme Dimension mascara on the upper and lower lashes; Kaliardos‘ MAC cheek palettes to highlight; and then a mix of MAC’s Fashion’s Field Day and Up at Dawn eye shadows, which were used as blush to “give that yellowy orange [touch].”
