It’s that time of year again. With the holidays quickly approaching, your social calendar will soon be filling up. Former Miss USA Olivia Culpo (and self-proclaimed foodie) has teamed with Stella Artois to share tips for throwing a bash to remember this season. From the perfect party outfit to great hostess gifts ideas, Pret-a-Reporter got the party lowdown from the blogger.
What is the one dish or hostess gift you bring with you when going to a friend’s party?
I actually like to combine the two and bring a food/hostess gift, a cheese and charcuterie selection served on a beautiful monogrammed wood cutting board, or I will make homemade biscotti and put it in an old-fashioned tin that can be reused and tie it with a festive grosgrain ribbon.
What is the one thing that you always really appreciate guests bringing when you are hosting a dinner or a party?
I love it when a guest brings a drink that they personally love, because then you end up with a wide array of options. I recently created a specialty cocktail with Stella Artois that is a called a Stella Artois Cidre Sparkler. I am going to bring it to all my holiday parties this season. I just thought of a great idea — I can bring it in a beautiful crystal pitcher and that can be my hostess gift!
What are some of the most important considerations you think about when you are throwing a party during the holidays?
It is really important to consider the guest list and make sure the environment makes people feel comfortable and in the holiday spirit. Sometimes you need to facilitate conversation by playing a game or having a hype man — you know that friend that can start a conversation with anyone! I also make sure I am not expecting it to be a perfect party — entertaining is about having fun, and it is not fun if you are trying to over-control it and hold it to some impossible standard.
Do you have a go-to party outfit or uniform for hosting a soiree?
I like to wear something that looks chic but is still comfortable and gives some room to eat tons of food. I love black leggings or tights with over-the-knee boots and a oversized sweater.
What do you love most about hosting a party?
I love getting people together so we can celebrate life and laugh. That is what is all about right?
Check out the below recipe for Culpo’s Stella Artois Cidre Sparkler:
To make homemade syrup:
1½ cup cranberries
1½ cup sugar
2 cups water
4 rosemary springs
Bring cranberries and water to a boil and cook until cranberries are soft and can be crushed with a spoon (approx. 8 minutes). Remove from heat, add sugar and rosemary, stir to dissolve sugar. Let steep for at least one hour, strain and press the juice from the berries. Chill.
To build the cocktail:
¾ oz homemade rosemary cranberry syrup
¼ oz lime juice
1 bottle Stella Artois Cidre
Build cocktail in a tin shaker, add ice and strain into Stella Artois Cidre wine glass. Garnish with rosemary sprig.
