It’s mid-afternoon in Los Angeles, but in London, the Olympic Closing Ceremonies program is at an end – an epic ode to all things British pop and Brit style. The fashion portion, as we can see from early photos coming across on the ‘net, includes supermodels Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Lily Donaldson, some in gowns, some in cocktail dresses – but it sure looks like one of the biggest runways we’ve ever scene. And outdoors, in amazing lighting, no less.
They say the Oscars’ red carpet is the world’s biggest runway – but this one might actually be bigger, and because it takes place at night, is grandly lit, making British fashion into the spectacle it deserves to be seen as. While designer Stella McCartney has already been shown off to great pride in the Adidas Olympics uniforms she designed for Team GB, we predict we’ll see designs by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Christopher Bailey for Burberry, dresses by Roksanda Illincic (a favorite of Kate Middleton‘s), and any number of other British designers who may not be as well known outside of their home country. And possibly more Stella, too.
If you’re chomping at the bit for a dose of fashion stimulation before the Venice Film Festival, then Fashion Week kicks in, set your DVRs.
