They’ve collaborated with Spike Jonze on fashion films and held political rallies with the likes of Whoopi Goldberg and Rashida Jones in lieu of runway shows — so what is Opening Ceremony going to do next? It’s going to Disneyland!
The American brand, helmed by Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, is heading to the happiest place on Earth to present their in-season spring collection March 7. The fashion show will be the first staged at the iconic park in 40 years. (The last, in 1978, was entitled “Evolution Of The American Woman,” according to a Disney spokesperson.)
Details regarding the show, including whether or not we can expect a Mickey or Minnie motif or if it will be open to the public, are being kept under wraps for now. However, given Lim and Leon’s taste for the extravagant, we can expect that the show will be nothing if not entertaining.
At last season’s New York Fashion Week presentation, the duo enlisted Mia Wasikowska and Lakeith Stanfield as stars of their dance show, Changers, which made use of Opening Ceremony’s colorful pre-spring collection as costumes. For fall 2016, Goldberg, Jones and a host of other celebrities gathered during New York Fashion Week to show off the brand’s latest digs as well as to encourage attendees to vote.
Disney is no stranger to the world of high fashion — the brand has collaborated with Coach on Mickey- and Minnie-inspired collections, and Minnie herself has worn bespoke pieces by Christian Siriano, Alice + Olivia as well as Coach.
Sounds magical.
