I am not jaded being here. I only play jaded in movies,” said The Social Network producer and two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey. Pandemonium reigned as fans in the bleachers screamed, with Natalie Portman, Penelope Cruz, Jeff Bridges and a “pumped up” Mark Wahlberg getting the biggest cheers. Danny Boyle excitedly pointed out fellow nominee Darren Aronofsky. “I really do like his films. I’m not just saying that,” he said. Meanwhile, David O. Russell exclaimed, “I met Rupert Murdoch!” And the night was just beginning.
RAMBLING REPORTER
On the Oscar red carpet, The Social Network’s Armie Hammer made a few lighthearted jokes about getting ready with co-stars before the show. “I did Jesse’s hair,” he joked of the nominee’s typically unruly coif. “I wanted to give Justin a waxing, but he declined.” … A dutiful Matthew McConaughey played handler to girlfriend Camila Alves on the Oscar red carpet. When asked what (and who) she was wearing, McConaughey pulled out a piece of paper to read off her fashion credits: Kaufman Franco with Stuart Weitzman shoes. … Best supporting actor nominees Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner took turns grabbing hold of Wally Pfister’s best cinematography statue for Inception at the Kodak Theatre’s lobby bar during the show. Having lost the trophy to Christian Bale, Ruffalo joked, “Hey, we should at least get a chance with it.” Also wanting a moment with Oscar? Animal Kingdom’s Jacki Weaver, who posed for a photo with the award as Renner took a shot on his iPhone. … Rupert Murdoch actually walked the red carpet at the Oscars, seemingly at the behest of his socialite/fashionista wife, Wendi Deng, who wanted to tell reporters about her pink gown. But THR wanted to know what Murdoch thought about Judith Regan’s recently reported allegations that Fox News’ Roger Ailes told her to lie about former New York police commissioner Bernard Kerik. “After all I’ve been through, I’m used to rumors,” Murdoch said with a dismissive laugh.
