Paris Fashion Week saw several eye-catching moments on Thursday, from Kim Kardashian‘s and Jared Leto‘s platinum makeovers to the metallic-coated catwalkers in Rick Owens’ fall 2015 show, titled “Sphinx.” The female show’s counterpart? That revealing full-frontal men’s presentation in January that had everyone talking.

For this latest collection that Owens describes as having the “same name and same mood with more arcadia and less anarchy,” he enlisted top makeup artist Lucia Pieroni, who covered the models — from hair to neck and even the ears — with one of three shades of metallic leaf (ranging from silver to yellow gold) for a supernatural sculpture-like effect. The look, which she called “gold leaf Mayan goddess,” was smooth in some places, and heavily textured and raised in others, paired with slicked-back hair. Yet other girls were made up to be Mayan warriors, with thick black rectangles of MAC eyeliner in lieu of the shining foil.
Owens cited influences, including Frank Lloyd Wright’s Hollyhock House and its flora motifs that had roots in Mayan culture, which the designer himself counts on his mother’s side. “Maybe now is a good time to start exploring that,” Owens said in a release. Clearly he liked what he found.
