Of course, we’ve been searching high and low through the spring 2013 collections in what we’ve seen so far in New York, Milan — and now, the beginning of Paris — and the only true gorge Hollywood-worthy cocktail clothes we’ve seen have been at Zac Posen, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana — and now at Nina Ricci in Paris.
Designer Peter Copping has been turning out feminine flattering dresses since he’s been at the house, and Nicole Kidman has worn the label, as well as other celebs. The last couple seasons have had some pretty things, but nothing all that memorable.
But spring 2013 changes the scenario: black cocktail dresses are cut from shiny silk and have both flow and structure — and details: a vertical cut-out box at the cleavage on one, illusion sheer sleeves on another. And then there’s a whole new style of assymetry, not at the sleeves or shoulders but the skirts: They have net inserts and extra pieces, and some have full-on fringe.
These are LBDs like you haven’t seen: They aren’t revolutionary; they’re just sexy, wearable, feminine and delicious. Is there any better combo, we ask you?
A whole red/pink group of dresses recasts the color red — this red has got a ton of fuschia in it, a shine — and some of the lovely dresses have red big polka dots on a red. One red dress with fringe is just a knockout! Either Emma Stone or Keira Knightley is going to show up in this dress soon, we promise you: Stylists, place your orders. Olivia Wilde would look insane in this dress — so would Ginnifer Goodwin.
There’s a silver group that is just fabulous that casts silver — traditionally a hue reserved for wild pieces — in classic suits — a genius idea. Of course, the silver fringe dress is a knockout, and so are dresses or gowns in pale pale yellow chiffon and a perfect robin’s egg blue.
Our favorite cocktail and gown collection by far.
