Jersey Shore was rebooted to outstanding ratings this year, and it was announced last month that another reality TV favorite was returning early next year: The Hills. But what about The Simple Life?
Now that a handful of unscripted series have joined Hollywood’s revival frenzy, fans of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie’s pioneering docuseries are hoping it’s next in line. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter‘s Evan Real at the Harper’s Bazaar Icons New York Fashion Week event, Hilton opened up about the likelihood of bringing back The Simple Life.
“They’ve asked me to do it, but my schedule is way too insane,” said the “Stars Are Blind” singer, clad in a purple Pamella Roland gown and rocking black-and-blonde hair extensions. However, it doesn’t seem completely out of the question if Hilton ever finds the time. “It would be epic,” she added.
Asked what The Simple Life might look like in 2018, Hilton said she would hope to show viewers her domestic side as she plans to tie the knot with her fiance, actor Chris Zylka.
“I think [it would show] just my life and how it is now. My new life, getting married, having babies. The real Simple Life,” the hotel heiress said, admitting she doesn’t like the idea of driving an RV cross-country again with co-star Richie. “I would miss my fiance too much.”
Whether or not a reboot happens, Hilton joked that she is game to record a studio version of “Sanasa,” her inexplicably catchy, one-word song with Richie, which has been preserved online in countless Simple Life memes and Twitter videos.
“I’m going to do a remix of it!” Hilton said, after giving an impromptu live performance of “Sanasa” on the carpet.
Hilton and Richie became household names when The Simple Life premiered on Fox in 2003. After five seasons, including a short stint on E!, the reality series concluded in 2007. Since then, Hilton has transformed into being a formidable businesswoman, overseeing an empire that includes 19 product lines, 50 brick-and-mortar retail stores across the globe and 24 different fragrances — which have reportedly exceeded $2.5 billion in sales.
“That was my plan the entire time, from The Simple Life,” she told THR earlier this year. “I knew I wanted to have a huge empire.”
