Rachel Zoe’s close pals Nicole Richie, Jennifer Meyer, Rebecca Gayheart with husband Eric Dane, and Sarah and Erin Foster toasted with watermelon mojitos and rose at sunset overlooking the L.A. skyline from a private residence in Beverly Hills in honor of the release Zoe’s namesake capsule collection with Net-a-Porter. The dinner on Wednesday evening was hosted by the woman of the hour and the online retailer’s vp global buying, Sarah Rutson.
The nine-piece collection, inspired by the Italian coast, sticks to Zoe’s signature boho-glam vibe with touches of metallic fabric, tassel detailing and off-the-shoulder necklines, (the trend of the summer seen on stars varying from Kate Middleton to Kendall Jenner). “This time of year I am dreaming of the Amalfi Coast and wanting to be those people in those iconic images from ‘60s and ‘70s,” explained the mother of two, who donned a lace-up metallic fil coupe silk-blend maxi dress from the capsule.
“We are very strategic at Net-a-Porter in terms of high-summer. It’s a very important time for our customers,” explained Rutson of why the brand wanted Zoe to create a special collection. “Fundamentally there is still a lot of time left in the summer and “pre” collections for fall are coming in, but shoppers don’t want a sweater or a boot or an overcoat right now.” The London-based company’s collaboration with Gucci (in May 2016) and the Chanel Coco Crush capsule (in April 2015) were wildly popular — both sold out in nearly 48 hours in the U.S. When the retailer picked up the Rachel Zoe Spring/Summer ’16 collection Rutson floated the idea of creating something special to Zoe, who immediately said yes. “We worked on the designs and the fabrics came in, and we exchanged phone calls and emails and ideas and it was done,” said Rutson.

Said Zoe of her famous pals, “There is piece for everyone of my friends in this capsule. They are all such incredible working women with tremendous careers and success, and it’s amazing for me when I see them in my clothes. As women we do a hundred things all day, and I think about how getting dressed is a part of that and how you can look good but still be able to do all of things you need to do.”
The airy fabrics and feminine designs are perfect for the vacation-minded, even if you are in the office or lounging in your backyard with friends. “We thought about dressing for that state of mind — glamorous, but easy and effortless, perfect for being able to throw on with Grecian sandals or to go barefoot but also to dress these pieces up with heels,” said Zoe, who noted that she would wear every item of the capsule, except the shorts. “I am not a short person, but my girlfriends over there are,” pointing to the table packed with her close friends. “I always design with many different women in mind.”
Prices range from $195 for embroidered silk and cotton shorts to $595 for the maxi dresses and are now available globally on Net-a-Porter.
