Roberto Cavalli has found its new design leader.
The Italian luxury label confirmed Wednesday that Paul Surridge will serve as the house’s creative director, effective immediately. The designer will debut his first collection for the brand with the women’s spring 2018 collection in Milan in September.
“I am honored and proud to carry forward the legacy of this extraordinary Italian house,” Surridge said in a statement. “This is a unique opportunity to contribute a new chapter to the Roberto Cavalli universe, which positively celebrates the beauty, sensuality and power of women. It is my intention to show the passion I share for the codes and vision on which Roberto Cavalli built his brand while celebrating the excellence of Italian craftsmanship.”
Though a relatively new name, Surridge has been in the industry for quite some time. The designer, who was born in England, graduated from London’s Central Saint Martins before heading to Calvin Klein in the ‘90s and then Burberry from 2003 to 2007.
In 2007, he worked under Raf Simons at Jil Sander as the design director. Before joining Cavalli, Surridge served as the creative director of Z Zegna and creative consultant of Acne Studios.
“Paul has a 360-degree vision on brands and branding. He is passionate, mature and an amazing team player,” said Gian Giacomo Ferraris, CEO of Roberto Cavalli. “We all believe that he is the ideal candidate to complete our management team and contribute to implement the ambitious development plans for Roberto Cavalli, which we have agreed with our stakeholders.”
