To celebrate its collaboration with Southern California-based cosmetics company ColourPop, Sanrio held a special event at Pour Vous in Los Angeles on Thursday. The cosmetics collaboration, entitled ColourPop x Hello Kitty, will feature a limited-edition collection that will launch on Hello Kitty’s birthday, Nov. 1.
In keeping with the Hello Kitty theme, the cosmetics line features such adorable names as “Friendship File,” a peachy beige with pink and silver glitter eye shadow, and “Supercute,” a warm pink lip gloss. As a nod to school days spent with the famous character, there’s also “School Bus,” a deep navy blue eye shadow, and “School Is Fun,” a chrome gold highlighter.
“We decided to go toward the original Hello Kitty, which is blue and red,” ColourPop’s marketing manager, Jordynn Wynn, tells Pret-a-Reporter. “We brought a lot of those colors into the actual shades. And we also wanted it to be fun and super wearable because we know that Hello Kitty has a really diverse audience, so we did a lot of soft neutrals, a lot of sparkle.”
Adds Sanrio vp brand management and marketing David Marchi of the collection: “It was 100 percent collaborative. We came up with ideas. They came up with ideas. It was so natural.”
The collection, which ranges in price from $5 to $42, will feature eye shadows, blush, highlighters and lip gloss. Products will be available from Nov. 1 to Feb. 1, 2017, only on ColourPop.com.
