Move over, Fenty!
On Monday, Selena Gomez announced in a statement that she will join Puma as its newest celebrity designer, potentially taking on similar duties to the ones Rihanna has as collaborator, designer and creative director of the footwear giant.
“Being part of the Puma family is very exciting for me,” Gomez said. “Puma has changed the game when it comes to the mash-up of athletic wear and fashion. It’s amazing to see this influence on style and culture and I’m excited to be a part of it. I am hoping that we can create something special together. We already have some really cool projects in the works.”
The 25-year-old singer’s boyfriend, The Weeknd, recently partnered with Puma, designing his own XO Parallel shoe, and the two were seen wearing matching pairs earlier this summer. Gomez’s collection, meanwhile, seems to be focused on athleticwear separates, including sports bras and velour tops.
The news of Gomez’s collaboration comes on the heels of her public announcement that due to lupus complications (lupus nephritis, an inflammation of the kidney), she had undergone a kidney transplant earlier this summer; the kidney was donated by Gomez’s close friend Francia Raisa. Post-surgery, Gomez immediately got back to work on her most recent project, Woody Allen’s newest movie.
This will be the singer’s second design collaboration, the first being the wildly successful Selena Gomez for Coach campaign and collection.
