Now Chrissy Teigen isn’t the only one who can get into John Legend’s pants. The nine-time Grammy-winning artist is putting his velvet-trim Valentino pants ($145), along with 150 other items from his closet, up for sale this week on TheRealReal.com, a high-end online shop where luxury items from labels such as Chanel, Hermes and Tom Ford are authenticated before being sold on consignment.
What has the singer-songwriter decided to part with for his one-week sale? For starters, lots of sneakers, including a pair of highly-coveted Louis Vuitton x Kanye sneaks ($425) and Nike Air Jordan high-tops ($125). For the person who wears his confidence on his feet, there’s a pair of Gucci alligator loafers (retail $1,950, sale $595). And Legend has his ideal cool-weather evening jacket, a velvet Valentino blazer, for $225. The luxe labels, tailored fits and understated colors all contribute to Legend’s aesthetic, which he says, “is a reflection of who I am and a reflection of my music. It’s soulful, focused on quality and not flash, and sexy, too.”
Those looking to capture a bit of that suave style can feel good about their purchases: All proceeds from the sale go to Legend’s Show Me Campaign, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to give education scholarships to children in the U.S., Ghana, Kenya and Malawi since its 2007 inception. “It’s about how we can do our part to help break the cycle of poverty and we focus on education as the key tool for doing that,” says the “All of Me” singer.
Legend’s wife, model Teigen, introduced him to TheRealReal site, spurring the idea to collaborate on the fundraiser. The three-year-old online retailer has held similar charitable sales, most recently selling 700 items from top CFDA-member designers to benefit the CFDA Foundation, which supports education, disaster relief and breast cancer patient care. This is the epitome of feel-good fashion.
Legend’s sale runs Tuesday, Nov. 18, through Tuesday, Nov. 25, at therealreal.com.
ALL OF ME: Those who want to capture Legend’s tailored, sleek style can buy his Gucci Chelsea boots ($795), navy Valentino blazer ($245) and pinstriped Burberry shirt ($75).
SAVE ROOM: The singer’s Schott NYC leather jacket with the tags still on is a steal at $175; as are the Creative Recreation sneakers, size 10, for $75.
MADE TO LOVE: Legend’s love of sneakers is on display; on offer are his Nike low-tops and Air Jordan high-tops (both size 10 and $125).
