DAVE BRUBECK, 1920-2012
Dave Brubeck, one of the seminal figures in American jazz history and the man behind the quartet that forged the polyrhythmically artful 1959 album Time Out, died Dec. 5 of heart failure. The pianist and composer was one day shy of his 92nd birthday.
WEDDINGS
The X-Factor’s Mario Lopez wed actress Courtney Mazza on Dec. 1 on the beach in Punta Mita, Mexico. Following the ceremony, guests like Eva Longoria enjoyed a mariachi band and a cake made by TLC’s Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro. The couple, who have a 2-year-old daughter, Gia, aired the wedding Dec. 8 during the two-hour TLC special Mario & Courtney’s Wedding Fiesta.

New Fashion Star host Louise Roe became engaged to her boyfriend of 2½ years, model Josh Slack. Slack proposed with Roe’s great-grandmother’s aquamarine ring while on vacation. The couple plan to choose a new ring together.
Spartacus: Vengeance star Liam McIntyre became engaged to Erin Hasan at Walt Disney World in Florida. The couple plan to wed in their native Australia in early 2014.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen welcomed daughter Vivian Lake at their home in Boston on Dec. 5. She joins brothers Benjamin, 3, and John, 5, Brady’s son with actress Bridget Moynahan.
Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles and husband Justin Miller welcomed son Magnus Hamilton on Dec. 6.

DEATHS
Eileen Moran, a top visual effects producer and longtime confidante of Peter Jackson, died Dec. 4 in New Zealand of cancer. She was 60.
Reinhold Weege, creator of the daffy 1980s sitcom Night Court, died Dec. 1 of natural causes in La Jolla, Calif. He was 62.
Susan Luckey, who played daughters in the classic movie musicals Carousel and The Music Man, died Nov. 29 at her Los Angeles home. She was 74.
Greg Rutkowski, who introduced numerous marketing and expansion initiatives at AMC Theatres during his two-decade tenure with the exhibition chain, died Nov. 28 in Los Angeles of pancreatic cancer. He was 64.
