Nivea Pulls Controversial Ad Tagline “White Is Purity” [Elle]
Nivea just pulled a Pepsi. The skincare company removed their “White Is Purity” tagline from their new Invisible for Black & White deodorant campaign, which was targeted at the Middle Eastern consumer. The social media copy includes the line, “Keep it clean, keep it bright. Don’t let anything ruin it, #invisible,” likely a nod to the fact that the deodorant doesn’t leave marks behind on clothes. The slogan drew comparisons to white supremacist rhetoric. In an apology, the skincare brand stated, “We are deeply sorry to anyone who may take offense to this specific post. Diversity and equal opportunity are crucial values of Nivea.”
