Gigi Hadid Signs With Messika [Preta-a-Reporter Inbox]
Paris-based jeweler Messika on Thursday announced that it has signed Gigi Hadid as the brand’s first-ever ambassador. In addition to appearing in Messika’s ad campaigns (shot by Mert & Marcus and appearing in November issues), Hadid also worked with the house on a capsule grouping based on its popular Move collection.
Dubbed Move Addiction, the 12-piece collection is crafted of 18-karat white, yellow or rose gold embellished with white diamonds and includes four high-jewelry pieces. Each look features a playful take that marries Move’s signature graphic elements with the initial G.
Why Hadid? “When I launched the brand [in 2005], it was about making diamonds feel really cool and not just for special occasions,” Valerie Messika, founder and creative director, tells Pret-a-Reporter. “Gigi is the ultimate cool girl. She has great style, but she also has a great soul; she’s always smiling and very warm. Gigi also has a voice: She really wanted to be involved in the collaboration and took part in every aspect, from the design of the pieces to the design of the logo. She was invested and passionate about keeping everything very modern.”
Move Addiction arrives Friday at Messika’s Paris flagship at 259 Rue Saint-Honoré before expanding to the brand’s other boutiques on Sept. 30. The collection will arrive in the U.S. at select Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue locations the first week of October.
Brooklyn Beckham Opens Up About His Photography Style [Fashionista]
Published author Brooklyn Beckham, who recently enrolled at Parsons, opened up to Fashionista about how he got started in photography after troubles at school, being approached to publish his photos in his new Rizzoli tome, What I See, and his favorite subjects to shoot. “I’m not really that into pretty, young models or well-known celebrities,” he said. “I’d much rather take photos of models that’s no one’s heard of or really old people who have tons of personality.” After school, he says, he’d love to apprentice for heroes Bruce Weber or Steven Meisel.
Kendall and Kylie Jenner’s eponymous label is under fire yet again, this time for a folded “Lee Leather Clutch” bag ($150 at Saks Fifth Avenue) shaped like a Chinese takeout box. Teen Vogue notes that customers are upset over the appropriation of the bag’s origins as well as its name, while W points out that Kate Spade released a very similar bag in 2014.
Glossier Launches Body Products [Into the Gloss]
Cult-favorite beauty brand Glossier, launched by Into the Gloss founder Emily Weiss, is branching out with a new line of body products called Body Hero. The first products include a Daily Oil Wash ($18) and Daily Perfecting Cream ($22), packaged in pink and red with a logo that at first glance could be mistaken for Supreme. The campaign for Body Hero stars plus-size model Paloma Elsesser, LPA designer Pia Arrobio and a very pregnant retired WNBA player Swin Cash.
Model Teddy Quinlivan Comes Out as Transgender [CNN]
Model Teddy Quinlivan — who just had a very busy New York Fashion Week walking for Coach, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Self-Portrait, Tory Burch and Monse, among others — came out as transgender on Tuesday. The 23-year-old, represented by Women Management, said of her decision to come out at this moment in time: “I’ve decided to reveal my trans identity because of the political climate in the world right now — particularly in the United States…We made an amazing progression under the Obama administration, and since the new administration took office there’s been a kind of backlash.”
