Monique Lhuillier to Show Spring Collection in Paris [Pret-a-Reporter Inbox]
Monique Lhuillier is the latest designer to flee New York Fashion Week, following in the footsteps of Proenza Schouler and Rodarte, instead opting to show her collection during Paris couture week (though she’s not on the official couture week calendar, which is chosen by the selective Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture). “From a creative perspective as a designer, and as a woman of French heritage, Paris is a city with which I have a deep familial connection,” the Los Angeles-based Lhuillier said Tuesday in a release. “I have naturally chosen Paris as the backdrop for the brand’s first International show.” She will show her spring 2018 collection in July of this year.
Payless Files for Bankruptcy [CNN Money]
Discount shoe retailer Payless ShoeSource filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday. Like many brick-and-mortar stores, Payless has faced increasing competition from Amazon and fast fashion brands. The company will immediately shutter 400 stores in the U.S. in the wake of the filing. The retailer, best known for its BOGO deals, follows a long procession of stores which have recently filed for bankruptcy, including mall staples BCBG Max Azria, The Limited and American Apparel.

The pop icon was named the most influential social media user by D’Marie Analytics, which took into account not just number of followers, but also post engagement, post reach and post click-through rate. A post from runner-up Selena Gomez fetches $775,000.
Ralph Lauren Closes Fifth Avenue Polo Store [Reuters]
Ralph Lauren is not immune to the struggle retailers have been facing, either. On Tuesday, the American sportswear brand announced it would be closing its Fifth Avenue Polo store, located down the street from Trump Tower, in two weeks’ time. Product from the Fifth Avenue store will be integrated into the Madison Avenue flagship as well as other downtown retail locations. Ralph Lauren also stated that it would be cutting jobs at its headquarters and shuttering other retail locations.
What the Oscars Date Change Could Mean for Fashion [THR]
To avoid overlap with the Winter Olympics, the date of the Oscars has been pushed back from its usual spot during the last weekend of February to early March — March 4, specifically. The only problem? Burberry to Open Cape Exhibit at New York, Los Angeles Stores [Pret-a-Reporter Inbox]
Burberry’s “The Cape Reimagined” exhibit, first introduced as part of the “Henry Moore: Inspiration & Process” runway show at Makers House in February, will be shown both in New York and Los Angeles. The first stop is New York, on display through Monday at the Moda Operandi Madison, where guests can see the collection and purchase the intricately crafted capes by appointment. From April 20-30, “The Cape Reimagined” will be on display at the Beverly Hills flagship store with free admission to the public during store hours.
