Fashion’s resident badass, Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso, has joined Marie Claire magazine as a new contributing editor for the glossy’s “@work” section, where she’ll dole out advice on all things business. The #Girlboss author, who’s had her fair share of business ups and downs in the past few years (including a scandal regarding the layoffs of several pregnant employees in the time before she stepped down as CEO last year), has told readers that though she’s built a successful business, “you shouldn’t idolize anyone. And I’m telling you again, don’t idolize me. I don’t know sh*!. Neither do your parents.” Solid. [WWD]
A warning letter sent in late July from the FDA to Lime Crime cosmetics (the brand behind the shockingly neon pouts all over Tumblr) surfaced on Tuesday evening, and in it, the FDA voiced concerns regarding two potentially irritating ingredients — ferric ferrocyanides and ultramarines — in the brand’s Velvetines Liquid Matte Lipstick. Though the ingredients have been approved for external use, they have not been verified for lip use. The company claims it was a misprint of its labels, however, given Lime Crime’s past issues, including mishandling of a data hack and falsely advertised “vegan” products, some customers are on edge. Ellen DeGeneres has partnered with Bergdorf Goodman’s New York location for an in-store pop-up (from Sept. 8-30), where she’ll be offering her fall collection, as well as select items from her decorative home-goods line from her new lifestyle brand, ED by Ellen. Additionally, the clothing collection will be available on the retailer’s website for the duration of the partnership. The pop-up marks the first time since DeGeneres launched her brand in June that the line will be available in a brick-and-mortar store. [WWD]
Employees at Conde Nast headquarters mourned the loss of a single Christian Louboutin heel Thursday morning after it was lost to a rogue escalator. The shoe — a black leather pump with a signature red sole — was caught in the space between the steps in what appears to be a commute gone wrong. The escalator, too, suffered damages and appeared to be out of service until maintenance arrived on location. The wearer — a lone, now-single-shoed Conde-rella — fled the scene, however, images of the horrific event were captured on Instagram. [The Cut]
