Snowboard Brand Burton Sued by Brewery Over “Take a Hike” Sweatshirt [Racked]
Popular Vermont-based snowboard brand Burton has been sued by another Vermont business, Long Trail Brewing, over the use of the brewery’s “Take a Hike” tagline on Burton merch. Long Trail first filed for the “Take a Hike” trademark in 1995, stating in the suit that “Burton has infringed Long Trail’s trademark Take a Hike, engaged in unfair and deceptive practices, and traded on Long Trail’s goodwill and reputation, to the irreparable injury and damage of Long Trail.” The two items featuring the “Take a Hike” phrase are no longer available on Burton’s website.
