The Stylish Spyfall Scandal: Who Is Jill Kelley Wearing?

Tampa socialite Jill Kelley — the woman who sparked the FBI investigation that revealed Gen. David Petraeus’ affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell — first appeared earlier this month on the stage of public opinion, dressed to thrill.

For her first photos since news of the scandal broke, Kelley carefully chose an optimistic, bright yellow, sleeveless dress with a keyhole yoke and a pink purse. Not exactly a shrinking violet, but not trampy either. She looked pampered and rich and confident.

Days later, she was photographed leaving her Tampa home on Nov. 13 wearing a very fitted, bubble-gum pink, short-sleeved, fitted dress, which has seemingly appeared in every magazine and newspaper and on every TV station and website around the world. Not to mention becoming the subject of a hilarious skit on Saturday Night Live last weekend.

Hot pink is a pretty popular hue of late. Ann Romney and first lady Michelle Obama both wore the eye-popping hue at the final presidential debate to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.

Clearly, none of the paparazzi documenting Kelley’s public appearances has ever worked in Hollywood. If they had, they would have had the wit to ask the most important question, the question on all of our minds, a question Kelley might actually have answered: “Who are you wearing?”

Right now, no designer has claimed ownership of any of her outfits. Whoever the designers are, they are probably trying to distance themselves from the political scandal. But fashion observers cannot help but notice that her “notice-me-I’m-rich” outfits look as if they could have been designed by Diane Von Furstenberg, Michael Kors or Oscar de la Renta. 

It’s only a matter of time until we get the style scoop on Mrs. Kelley’s “look-at-me” society-babe wardrobe. The truth will come out eventually. Maybe we can get the FBI working on it.

So far, fashion fox Kelley is coming out ahead of Broadwell, the woman who allegedly sent Kelley threatening emails that sparked the scandal. Broadwell could also do with hair advice, such as seriously considering bangs. But Kelley has had more experience — struggling to be accepted into Tampa’s old money society — so she’s way out in front– despite her rumored money problems — when it comes to label-consciousness.

Naturally, comparisons between Kelley and her equally voluptuous sister, Natalie Khawam, both of Lebanese descent, have already been made to the Kardashian sisters (the older three are of Armenian descent).

Meanwhile, Kelley’s twin sister took her turn in the fashion limelight Tuesday, appearing with her attorney, the ubiquitous feminist ambulance-chaser Gloria Allred.

Wearing a conservative, navy, fit-n-flare dress, Khawam began crying before speaking at a news conference at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, explaining that she hired Allred to guide her through an ongoing custody battle over her 4-year-old son.

One wonders if Khawam borrowed her demure, almost dour, dark dress from her twin’s closet.
