Celebrities — stars like Kim Kardashian, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Sienna Miller in particular — seem to have perfected the art of flying and looking fabulous. But for plebes who don’t have $5,000 to drop on a plane outfit and even more for first class, long-distance air travel, especially, can be more challenging. To help, a few tips that will make you look just a bit more like Victoria Beckham post-flight.

1. Get a prescription for sleeping pills. Melatonin (10mg) helps too if you’re into natural remedies. But be sure to take it early in the flight.
2. Avoid coffee and salty, fatty foods the day before, and drink lots of water. We mean lots. (And keep drinking it through the flight: Eight ounces for every hour up in the sky is recommended.)
3. Set your watch ahead and pretend like it’s already the time of the destination you’re going to. It may feel weird, but it helps. (Or download JetLag Genie to help.)

4. Leave your house with a clean face, and an antioxidant moisturizer (Origins’ A Perfect World Antioxidant Moisturizer, $43) on. If you’re taking an especially long flight, bring wipes or cleansing pads (First Aid Beauty Gentle Cleansing Wipes, $15) along to use midway through, and then a sample size of a mask or facial oil (Pure Marula Facial Oil, $23) that will drench your skin in much-needed hydration. Eye masks, like a rose or ginseng version ($5) also aren’t a terrible idea.
5. Pack a bright lipstick (try Nars’ Audacious in Geraldine, $32 or Tom Ford’s Matte Lipstick in Electric Pink, $52) to apply right before deplaning. It’ll distract from tired, dehydrated skin and make you instantly look refreshed.
