In honor of the 40th anniversary of punk, Joe Corre (son of punk goddess Vivienne Westwood and the late Malcolm McLaren) is planning to burn his £5 million (roughly $7 million) punk memorabilia collection in London’s Camden district.
Corre’s move is a response to Queen Elizabeth II declaring 2016 as the “Year of Punk.”
“The Queen giving 2016, the Year of Punk, her official blessing is the most frightening thing I’ve ever heard,” the British businessman said Wednesday in a release, according to Crack magazine.
“Talk about alternative and punk culture being appropriated by the mainstream,” he continued. “Rather than a movement for change, punk has become like a f—ing museum piece or a tribute act.”
According to the glossy, the owner of lingerie line Agent Provocateur also expressed his disdain at the number of museums in London (including The BFI and Museum of London) running “40th anniversary of Punk” events.
It seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, as his designer mama (who recently sent punk monks down her runway) is also known for making political statements.
