Belgian super fan Axelle Despiegelaere may not be on the road to being a supermodel after all.
The 17-year-old had earned a modeling contract from L’Oreal after picture-perfect photos of her cheering on the Belgium national team against Russia on June 22 went viral, according to a Facebook fan page that launched earlier this week.
A YouTube video showing Despiegelaere getting a “hair tutorial” as part of a L’Oreal Professionnel Belgique social media campaign was also a big hit, and has already received almost two millions views.
However, on Thursday the Facebook page was mysteriously deleted and the latest reports claim that is it because of another photo of Despiegelaere that has been causing a storm on social media.
The blonde Belgian teen posted a big game hunting picture on July 1—the day the U.S. played Belgium in the World Cup—with the caption: “Hunting is not a matter of life or death. It’s much more important than that … this was about 1 year ago … ready to hunt Americans today haha.”
The photo has also been deleted but was retweeted by Business Insider entertainment editor Aly Weisman.

Needless to say, it did not go down well with U.S. soccer fans or animal lovers, and caused a firestorm of comments online.
Despiegelaere, who is posing next to a dead animal with a rifle in her hand, went on to apologize for the photo in a Facebook comment that read: “I didn’t mean to offend anyone … it was a joke.”
L’Oreal has since withdrawn their interested in her, and a spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement: “Axelle de Spiegelaere is not one of L’Oréal Professionnel’s spokespeople.
“L’Oréal Professionnel Belgium collaborated with her on an ad hoc basis to produce a video for social media use in Belgium. That contract has now been completed.”
Although the French cosmetic company has not said whether the hunting photo was to blame, a representative did stress to the Independent that it “no longer tests on animals, anywhere in the world, and does not delegate this task to others.”
