Coming as somewhat of a surprise on Friday morning, Brooks Brothers announced that Zac Posen is the brand’s creative director for its women’s collection and accessories.
The designer expressed to WWD that he was “honored and excited to be embarking on this incredible opportunity to take the Brooks Brothers women’s brand into the future while respecting its deep, rich American heritage as an institutional company.”

Bringing together Posen and Brooks Brothers isn’t something one would expect, as he’s known more for his glamorous, European aesthetic (especially on the red carpet, seen on the likes of Sarah Silverman, Dita Von Teese, Karen Elson and Greta Gerwig), while the menswear retailer is better recognized for its classic Americana designs. But that’s exactly why Brooks Brothers chairman and CEO Claudio Del Vecchio is interested in working with the 33-year-old designer.
“We want to better ourselves and have another point of view,” Del Vecchio told WWD, noting that Posen will act more as a creative director than a designer for the company. “He’s someone we trust and admire for what he does, and he can add to what we’re already doing.”

He later added of hiring Posen: “It’s not for PR, but he’s a celebrity, and I fully expect to get plenty of coverage and create traffic. But this is a business decision.” Given the designer’s close relationship with Lena Dunham and Claire Danes, to name a few famous faces, we expect to see a lot more of Brooks Brothers in Hollywood.
Posen’s first collection as creative director is expected to launch in the spring 2016 season.
