Once again, new series led the nominations on Wednesday for the 2016 Television Critics Association Awards. Mr. Robot (USA) and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story (FX) each netted four mentions, including for program of the year.
For that honor, the two will compete against two other rookie series, UnREAL (Lifetime) and Making a Murderer (Netflix), as well as returning shows The Americans (FX), Fargo (FX) and Game of Thrones (HBO).
Both The Americans and UnREAL snagged three noms apiece, as did freshman comedies Master of None and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Other nominated new series include Full Frontal With Samantha Bee (TBS), Marvel's Jessica Jones (Netflix) and Underground (WGN).
“TCA members have recognized a record number of first-time nominees for this year’s awards. In our 32-year history this is one of the most diverse slates of genres and programs we’ve ever had,” said TCA president Amber Dowling. “It’s been a banner year for fresh, noteworthy content and we’re looking forward to seeing which shows and actors grab top prizes following the difficult votes ahead.”
The awards are voted on by television critics across the country. Winners for the 32nd annual TCA Awards will be announced Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills during the TCA summer press tour. This year's ceremony will be hosted by Jane the Virgin star Jaime Camil.
