Hulu grabbed its first-ever TCA award nomination Monday thanks to The Handmaid's Tale. Along with This Is Us, and Atlanta, Handmaid's Tale led the nominations for the 2017 Television Critics Association award nominations, with four apiece including the prestigious program of the year.
In that category, the three series will compete against Big Little Lies, Stranger Things and The Leftovers.
Big Little Lies and Stranger Things each scored three nominations, as did Feud: Bette and Joan and The Good Place.
On the performer side, Carrie Coon made history with her double nomination for individual achievement in drama, the first ever at the TCA Awards, for her performances in Fargo and The Leftovers.
"This was truly a landmark season for diversity in television, and the TCA nominations reflect this. Our members have chosen a variety of series that celebrate and represent a wide spectrum of performances,” said TCA president and THR contributor Amber Dowling. “With so many great programs—both new and returning—it was a real challenge for our members to whittle these nominees down. We're excited to see which programs and performers make the cut as voting now gets underway to determine the TV standouts of the 2016-17 season.”
The awards are voted on by television critics across the country. Winners for the 33rd annual TCA Awards will be announced Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills during the TCA summer press tour. Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth is set to host this year's ceremony, where the career achievement and Heritage award winners will also be announced.
