Darkest Hour topped the feature competition at the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards on Saturday at The Novo by Microsoft at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles.
The film won two trophies, for best special makeup effects, which was awarded to Oscar nominees Kazuhiro Tsuji, David Malinowski and Lucy Sibbick for the transformation of Oscar nominee Gary Oldman into British Prime Minster Winston Churchill; and for best period and/or character makeup, which was presented to Ivana Primorac and Flora Moody.
Darkest Hour is nominated for the hair and makeup Oscar, along with Wonder, which stars Jacob Tremblay as a boy with Treacher Collins syndrome, and the British period drama Victoria & Abdul.
Wonder had three MUAHS nominations but came up empty-handed. Victoria & Abdul was not nominated by the guild.
Also Saturday in the guild's feature competition, Pitch Perfect 3, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and I,Tonya won one award apiece.
Big Little Lies, Dancing With the Stars, Feud: Bette and Joan and Game of Thrones were among the titles that won two awards apiece in the TV categories.
Oscar-winning makeup artist Greg Cannom and four-time Emmy-winning hairstylist Mary Guerrero received lifetime achievement awards, while Oldman was the evening's Distinguished Artisan Award honoree.
