Following a spring season of controversial character deaths and shocking storylines, networks are ready with summer television right around the corner.
In a packed TV season of scripted series on both broadcast and cable networks, new shows run the gamut of comic book killers and family crime drama to 1970s music and a 1980s summer camp. Below are a few of the biggest titles coming this summer, including shows hailing from talent behind The Good Wife, Dexter and Once Upon a Time.

'Preacher'
In this series based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's 1990 comic of the same name, Dominic Cooper stars as a gun-toting preacher who has lost his faith after learning that God has left heaven and forsaken his duties. The pulpy, violent drama has had a long road to the screen and counts uber-fans Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg among its producers. Oh, and there's a beer-guzzling vampire named Tulip to watch out for, too.

'Feed the Beast'
Image Credit: Courtesy of AMC From Dexter alum Clyde Phillips, Friends grad David Schwimmer stars in the straight-to-series drama opposite Jim Sturgess as friends who open an upscale restaurant in the Bronx where they betray, backstab and manipulate each other into the most dangerous situations imaginable.

'Animal Kingdom'
Image Credit: Courtesy of TNT Based on the 2010 feature film of the same name and originally developed for Showtime, Animal Kingdom is a family crime drama set against a surf community. The series, starring Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman and Shawn Hatosy, marks a homecoming for EP John Wells (and Hatosy) to the TNT network that rescued Southland.

'BrainDead'

Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as a fresh-faced Capitol Hill staffer who gets her first job in D.C. only to discover that the government has stopped working and alien spawn have come to Earth and eaten the brains of a growing number of congressmen and Hill workers. Tony Shalhoub, Aaron Tveit and Danny Pino also star.

'Queen of the South'
Image Credit: Benedicte Desrus/USA Network Based on the international best-seller La Reina Del Sur (which spawned the popular series on Telemundo), Alice Braga stars as a woman who, after the death of her drug-dealing boyfriend, tries to bring down the leader of the ring that has her on the run — and becomes the leader of a cartel.

'Roadies'
Image Credit: Katie Yu/SHOWTIME Cameron Crowe moves to TV for the first time with a love letter to music in this drama series about fellow music lovers who sacrifice their own lives to support the band they love. Luke Wilson, Imogen Poots and Carla Gugino star in the series that counts J.J. Abrams as an exec producer. The series is considered an extension of Crowe's Almost Famous.

'Dead of Summer'
Image Credit: Courtesy of Freeform From Once Upon a Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, the straight-to-series drama takes place in the late 1980s and follows counselors at a summer camp as they experience their first loves, kisses and … kills. Once favorites Elizabeth Mitchell and Elizabeth Lail star in the anthology.

'The Get Down'
Image Credit: Netflix Baz Luhrmann makes his TV debut with the 1970s-set music drama that explores the birth of hip-hop, punk and disco as told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city. Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito star.
