'Aladdin': Meet the Cast of Disney's Live-Action Reboot

The film, which is currently in production, is expected to be released in May 2019.

Following the recent success of live-action remakes of The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast, Disney is rebooting another classic with Aladdin.

The 1992 animated film, featuring voices from Robin Williams, Scott Weinger and Linda Larkin, is being remade by Guy Ritchie, who is serving as co-writer and director of a star-studded cast. The film is currently in production, as the actors have been giving updates on social media, and is set for a May 2019 release.

  • Mena Massoud as Aladdin

    Canadian actor Mena Massoud, who will also appear in Amazon's upcoming series Jack Ryan, will take on the title role of a young man who, with Genie's help, becomes a prince so that he can woo Princess Jasmine.

  • Naomi Scott as Jasmine

    Naomi Scott, who plays Jasmine, will be returning to her Disney roots for the reboot. Scott, who was named to THR's Next Class talent class of 2017, started her career in the Disney Channel original movie Lemonade Mouth and has since appeared in sci-fi show Terra Nova and 2017's Power Rangers movie.

  • Will Smith as Genie

    Taking over the role originally voiced by Robin Williams, Will Smith will turn blue for the film as Genie. While he's had success as a rapper and musician, a musical is a departure for Smith, who's recent works include Concussion, Suicide Squad and Collateral Beauty

  • Marwan Kenzari as Jafar

    Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari will play villain Jafar in the live-action remake. After building a career in the Netherlands, Kenzari is making a splash in Hollywood in 2017, with roles in The Mummy, What Happened to Monday? and Murder on the Orient Express

  • Nasim Pedrad as Daila

    The actress, best known for her work on Saturday Night Live, Scream Queens and New Girl, will play Daila, who was not a character in the animated classic. According to Disney, this character will be Jasmine's handmaiden and friend. 

  • Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders

    Billy Magnussen will play Prince Anders, who will replace the original movie's Prince Achmed as Jasmine's suitor and potential husband. The actor has had various roles across film, television and theater, but is best known for Into the Woods

  • Navid Negahban as the Sultan

    Navid Negahban, who has worked on Homeland and 24, will play the Sultan, who is Jasmine's father and ruler of the kingdom of Agrabah

  • Numan Acar as Hakim

    Hakim, Jafar's right-hand man and head of the palace guards, will be played by Numan Acar, a German-Turkish actor and producer who has also worked on Homeland
